Gender equality

Definition: Promoting gender equality in the work place, reducing gender gaps and supporting job desegregation

Theme H partnerships were concerned with reducing gender inequalities. The work included the development of pay audit tools, producing training and support materials for careers advisers, providing women with access to science, engineering, ICT, transport and other sectors, and challenging both gender and ethnic stereotyping. Products include research on the employment of women in ICT, an e-learning website challenging stereotyping, live drama and drama DVD, research materials and role models on DVD.

Information, Advice and Guidance Pilot >> Three of Agender’s partners – City College, ENTA and Bournville College – took part in the Information, Advice and Guidance Pilot from January to March 2007.

JIVE Partnership Video Interviews >> JIVE has been addressing the skills shortage in science, engineering and technology (SET) and taking steps to ensure that skilled women are able to contribute fully in the SET careers for which they were trained.

JIVE Services to Educators >>The services that the project has produced include: role model profiles a database of female experts and role models in SECT access to resources and information encouraging women in SECT networking partnership opportunities gender awareness training for school teachers, champions, career professionals and HE and FE lecturers advice on developing a gender-inclusive learning environment good practice and 'how to' guides (available from the web site).

JIVE Services To Employers >>The services provided by this project include: free consultations on how to implement gender equality in HR practices, employment practices, recruitment and retention issues: open to industry, academia, research councils and sector skills councils free gender equality tools and schemes: culture analysis tool, Athena SWAN Charter, work-life balance advice, company mentoring and returners schemes employer networking events good practice and 'how to' guides (available from the web site).

JIVE Services to Individual Women >>The services provided by the project include: advice and guidance on entering or returning to SECT careers free admission to the Open University T160 course for women returners: visit the OU web site for more information access to technical upskilling and information on courses and funding employer placements and progression support networking, mentoring and placement opportunities support with SECT business enterprise.

JIVE Training >> Over a three-year period, JIVE has delivered training to over 1000 learning providers in further and higher education, work-based learning providers, 500+ careers and connections staff, and employees from industry and sector skills councils.

Job-Based Training >> The project focuses on the growing role of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications in driving business competitiveness and the corresponding demand for ITEC skills and new employment opportunities for women especially women returning to work after a career break.

Leaflets, Resources and Training Packages >>There are many free training packages, reports and leaflets available to download at www.equal-agender.net .

Legal Toolkit: University of Gloucestershire >> The university has been producing a handbook: Getting it Right Legally – Status and Structure for Play and Childcare Organisations (GIRL 1).

Level 2 and Level 3 training in Playwork: Play Wales >> Play Wales is the national organisation for children’s play in Wales; an independent charity funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Long-term work: Communities that Care >> Rainer CtC Wales was formed by the merger of Communities that Care (CtC) and Rainer in November 2006.

Making Regeneration Better >> The overall aim of the project was to work with community planning partnerships (CPP) in Dundee City Council and Inverclyde Council to introduce a gender-aware regeneration policy programme.

Men into Childcare >> The outreach support worker for the Men into Childcare project started work in April 2007.

Mentoring Circles >> In collaboration with Equalitec, partner Inova developed a new mentoring methodology, Mentoring Circles TM.

Mini-BICCS Sports Coaching for Women >> The women-only Mini-BICCS (Birmingham Inner-City Sports Coaching Programme) was funded through a partnership of Agender, Sports Pathways, Sporting Equals and PPDG.
