Retail (North West), BOWL - Building Opportunities through Workplace Learning

Activity information

Description

Working with Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (WSDAW), the Retail sector project adapted the Union Learning Representative model to fit with the sector. It was impractical to place ULRs in individual shops, due to the low staff numbers, high staff turnover and low rates of union membership. Instead, ULRs were based on two models, either working across a geographical area, such as a town centre, or working in stores of one particular chain of shops.
