Description
At present there is nothing at all in place for young asylum seekers who cannot be enrolled in local secondary schools; this project aims to put a very structured educational programme into place for this group. There is also a very real need for materials for ESOL and literacy for asylum seekers who are learning English. The project is needed because of the very real cultural awareness/language acquisition issues when mainstream staff work with asylum seeker students.
The project aims to help mainstream college staff, nursery and crèche staff and Community Resource Centre staff who are working with asylum seekers (capacity building), all asylum seekers students, both literate and non-literate (materials development and teachers packs), and young asylum seekers who at present have no easy access to education (16+ group).
