AGORA pilot towns, Agora

Activity information

Description

To develop alternative social enterprise models for 8 local AGORA communities to run their locations as social enterprises (i.e. self-sufficient structures inc. associated business models/legal frameworks - such as CICs/BIDs), whose profits are reinvested into TCM improvement and the creation/facilitation of other local social enterprises (such as local food supply chains, community services etc). This includes empowering local people to develop strategic objectives/strategies (such as branding) to improve the place in which they live, work, shop etc (in full partnership with local support agents and schemes – such as Neighbourhood Renewal) and monitor their own performance against the objectives they set themselves. This will provide the 'hard evidence' needed to "demonstrate the impact and added value of social enterprise" (DTI,2002).
