Materials from Equal programme: Equal-Works 2007 conference
The Equal Works 2007 conference took place on 10 and 11 September 2007 at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham. The two day conference celebrated the achievements of Equal. Since 2001, the Equal programme has acted as a learning platform, developing new ways of tackling longstanding problems of labour market discrimination and presenting evidence-based outcomes that can inform both current and future provision. The event acted as an ideal opportunity for the Equal lessons to be identified and most importantly promoted to the right audiences. With a busy exhibition space with 50 stands this was an excellent opportunity for delegates to network and learn more about Equal activity.
Over the two days twelve showcases took place which gave DP's the chance to present their findings in their area of expertise as well as make policy recommendations. The showcases covered a wide spectrum of issues from how to develop innovative approaches when working with ex-offenders to how do we actually engage employers when delivering programmes like Equal.
A number of DPs presented at each of these showcases followed by discussions on good practice and possible policy recommendations:
- Workplace Adaptability
- Innovative Approaches to Working with Ex-offenders
- Social Enterprise and Business Creation
- Tackling Skills Gaps
- Race and Integration
- Employment needs of Older Workers
- Challenging Discrimination and Inequality
- Engaging Employers
- Mainstreaming in Practice
- How to Measure and Evaluate Success
- Partnerships and Networks
- Transnational Co-operation in Practice
