As the PRESTO partnership included both refugee agencies and mainstream organisations, RAGU felt it was important to have a general guide for advisers that could provide the basic information that anyone working with refugee professionals would need.

RAGU also wanted a similar, parallel guide for refugees themselves, translated into as many refugee community languages as possible. Empowerment is one of the key themes of Equal, and RAGU have found that access to information is crucial to this.

RAGU had several focus groups for both refugees and advisers early in the project, and RAGU have tried to respond to what they wanted. As a result, the format of the two guides is different. The adviser’s guide has lots of facts and tables, and links to primary sources, other web sites, resources and networks. The refugee guide is divided into similar sections but the format is ‘question and answer’. This guide has been translated into nine refugee community languages: Arabic, Farsi, French, Kurdish Sorani, Pashto, Somali, Turkish, Tigrinian and Urdu. As there are constant changes in this field, RAGU wanted to be able to update the guides throughout the project period. The last update was September 2007. RAGU hopes to continue to do this in 2008, thanks to further funding from Advice Resources.
